John Muir Charter School works with youth ages 16-25 on high school diplomas and GEDs in collaboration with vocational training programs. JMCS works in Salinas with Rancho Cielo. We have two classroom programs on site; Youthbuild, a construction training program and Drummond Culinary Academy, a culinary certification program. See links below for further descriptions.

This position includes the following duties:
- Monitor and report student attendance and progress.
- Grade student work and maintain grade book.
- Maintain student files including work samples, lesson plans, educational progress, attendance sheets and educational service plans.
- Assist in providing classroom supervision, ability to "work the room" or co-teach when needed
- Provide tutoring to small group and individuals on a daily basis.
- Create and implement curriculum preparing students for English and the Math CAHSEE
- Utilize a variety of instructional methods to address different learning styles.
- Be able to learn appropriate materials, equipment and outside resources related to education.
- Participate in community service projects; attend retreats, workshops and conferences as required.
- Be able to communicate clearly with staff and educators.
- Be aggressive toward the needs of students and staff in a high paced, high stakes environment.

- Ability to tutor Math, English and general high school subjects with minimal supervision
- California teaching credential is desired, although not necessary. Pay will be scaled for credential.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to team-teach and work effectively as a part of a team.
- Sincere desire to assist young people, particularly so-called at-risk students to succeed.
- Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision and manage competing priorities.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making effective decisions and in problem solving skills.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Salary will be competitive with salary range in area (to be determined based upon experience and qualifications). Pay range $15-$19 per hour.
Position is negotiable full-time or part-time. This is a non-traditional year-round position. Teachers accrue vacation time to be determined at time of hire.
