Teacher - CSET Sequoia Community Corps, Visalia
| The Teacher shall report to the Sequoia Community Corps Education Director. The Teacher is responsible for developing, planning and implementing an appropriate curriculum and instruction for young adults. This provides individualized functional skill development in all subjects necessary to prepare students to earn the high school diploma as well as assist in providing appropriate college preparatory information appropriate for post secondary education.

| The Sequoia Community Corps (SCC) is a project of Community Services Employment Training, Inc., a private nonprofit corporation, serving Tulare County for the past 30 years. The SCC has been successfully operating in Tulare, Kings, and Kern Counties for over 20 years and has provided over 4,000 young adults with valuable job training and educational opportunities. In addition, the SCC assists local agencies and businesses in meeting critical needs of the community such as park development, construction of low-income family housing, recycling, and natural resource conservation in local recreation areas.

- Prepares weekly lesson plans.
- Develops plans to provide well-rounded individualized and group instruction as appropriate.
- Works with individual students to create their education goals, objectives and educational plans.
- Identifies and uses appropriate tools to assess, document and report student periodic and final progress.
- Utilizes a variety of appropriate instructional methods to address different learning styles.
- Reviews and recommends necessary and appropriate materials and equipment.
- Assesses corpsmembers need for (and provide) special tutoring as necessary.
- Works and coordinates with other staff to incorporate practical academic learning experiences related to Life Skills, Leadership, Construction and other appropriate subjects.
- Assists in identification of outside resources related to education.
- Identifies and provides opportunities in the classroom for corpsmembers to demonstrate Leadership skills.
- Participates in community service projects, attends retreats, workshops and conferences as required.
- Informs Case Management and other appropriate staff of student issues that affect student progress.
- Reviews, evaluates, monitors, reports and documents student attendance and progress.
- Maintains individual confidential student educational files including work samples, lesson plans, educational progress, attendance sheets and educational service plans.
- Maintains student grades and grade book.
- Establishes relationships and networks with peers at other program sites and community-based organizations.
- Monitors and maintains student compliance with grant program requirements.
- Assists in providing supervision of students at school and training sites.
- May assist in identifying and organizing appropriate community service projects.
- Monitors and maintains corpsmembers progress in the attainment of the GED and High School Diploma.
- Complies with all school policies and procedures of John Muir Charter School.
- Completes all necessary paperwork as required by Muir management and administration, as well as any paperwork requested by the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools (NCSOS).
- Manages student schedules as the students work through the different phases of their academic and vocational programs.
- Maintains student assessment scores and track their progress until they have passed or exceeded set goals.
- In conjunction with the Registrar, maintains the student database for enrollment, attendance, and transfers in the program.
- Occasionally observes and assists students when they are working in their vocational field and integrate the student's field and classroom experiences in order to increase their value to the student.
- Be willing to work flexible schedules to accommodate the varying needs and schedules of enrolled students and our client agencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- California teaching credential is required. Credential in multiple subjects is preferred.
- One year of experience in Adult academic instruction related to preparation for the high school diploma is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to engage young people from "at risk" conditions in meaningful, interesting and creative learning experiences.
- Experience working with "at risk" youth.
- Working knowledge of various educational assessment tools. Experience in administration of assessment tools is preferred and a plus.
- Experience in curriculum and lesson planning and development.
- Experience in/knowledge of developing individualized educational plans.
- Experience working with and the ability to be sensitive to a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic population.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to make group presentations and facilitate group activities.
- Ability to team-teach and work effectively as a part of a team.
- Sincere desire to assist young people to succeed, develop self-confidence and effective -leadership skills; familiarity with various challenges and issues faced by youth from low-income communities.
- Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision and manage competing priorities on a daily basis.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making effective decisions and in problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated interest in volunteerism.

| $41,500-56,500 Depending on qualifications and experience. Full medical, dental and vision benefits. This is a year-round non-traditional school year. All teachers work on 250 day contracts and accrue vacation time to be determined at time of hire.
