Temporary Instructional Assistant - San Diego Labor Council YouthBuild
The San Diego and Imperial County Labor Council YouthBuild program has partnered with John Muir Charter School to serve former high school drop-outs, ages 18 to 24, with preparation leading to a high school diploma or GED, Life Skills, Leadership Development and the opportunity to learn hands-on construction skills. In addition, participants who complete their GED or diploma, express an interest in the Construction Trades and have demonstrated a strong work ethic will be recommended for apprenticeship programs with local construction trade unions.
The program is looking for a temporary, part-time, instructional assistant to help cover for teachers out on leave. The position is for 1-2 months, with a possibility of being extended further. Ideally we would like to hire an individual with a teaching credential or who is attending a credentialing program. Please see below for more details about the position.

- Monitor and report student attendance and progress.
- Grade student work and maintain grade book.
- Maintain student files including work samples, lesson plans, educational progress, attendance sheets and educational service plans.
- Assist in providing classroom supervision, ability to "work the room" or co-teach when needed
- Provide tutoring to small group and individuals on a daily basis.
- Create and implement curriculum preparing students for the Math CAHSEE
- Prepare and deliver direct instruction in general high school math and Algebra
- Utilize a variety of instructional methods to address different learning styles.
- Be able to learn appropriate materials, equipment and outside resources related to education.
- Be able to communicate clearly with staff and educators.
- Be aggressive toward the needs of students and staff in a high paced, high stakes environment.

- Ability to tutor Math, English and general high school subjects with minimal supervision
- California teaching credential is desired, although not necessary. Pay will be scaled for credential.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to team-teach and work effectively as a part of a team.
- Sincere desire to assist young people, particularly so-called at-risk students to succeed.
- Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision and manage competing priorities.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making effective decisions and in problem solving skills.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

| Salary will be competitive with salary range in area (to be determined based upon experience and qualifications). Pay range $15-$19 per hour, more if credentialed. This is a part-time, temporary position of 1-2 months.
