The California Conservation Corps engages young men and women in meaningful work, public service and educational activities that assist them in becoming more responsible citizens, while protecting and enhancing California's environment, human resources and communities.

John Muir Charter School at the Camarillo CCC offers corpsmembers an educational program that makes a positive impact in the lives of our students, as well as the community.

An exciting aspect of our program is that we have developed a great relationship between our school and California State University Channel Islands. And, since CSUCI is a university that emphasizes service learning, we have teamed up with several professors to offer the corpsmembers one-on-one tutoring help by university students. In addition, the university students benefit by giving of their time and resources to others, and learning experientially what it means to be service oriented in the community.

John Muir Charter School at the Camarillo CCC is a diverse program which allows for education to be accessible to all corpsmembers. We offer the following services:

  • support for corpsmembers who are pursuing a high school diploma
  • tutoring help for students who are studying for the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)
  • tutoring help for those who want to improve on their reading and writing skills
  • computer lab and library, which allow students to access resources to complete research projects and other educational activities
