Mission
The young women and men of the Corps work hard protecting and restoring California's environment and responding to disasters, becoming stronger workers, citizens and individuals through their service.

 CCC MOTTO:

"Hard work, low pay, miserable conditions... and more!"

John Muir Charter School at the Chico CCC offers corpsmembers an educational program that makes a positive impact in the lives of our students, as well as the community.
Renowned in the North State
Chico CCC takes pride in the wide variety of work projects, SPIKEs (tent camps), special trainings and emergency responses that has made it renowned throughout the north state. It is uniquely situated near the Sacramento River, Lassen and Plumas National Forests, several State Parks and National Wildlife Reserves, Chico Bidwell Park and the I-5 corridor. Crew Supervisors, the head of Corpsmember Development and Recruiter are all former corpsmembers with a special ability to understand and lead program participants in the vocational and educational training that typifies this excellent center.

Chico CCC enthusiastically supports the mission of California Conservation Corps and takes pride in the wide variety of work projects, SPIKES, education opportunities, special trainings and emergency responses that has made it renowned throughout the north state. Its unique location near the Sacramento River, Lassen and Plumas National Forests, several State Parks and National Wildlife Reserves, Chico Bidwell Park, and the I-5 corridor make these activities accessible and meaningful.

Chico is a non-residential center that has grown from its original one crew center in 1997 to its current size of three crews, fifty-five crew members and a staff of ten. Our Corpsmembers live in Chico and the surrounding communities of Paradise, Oroville, Gridley, Willows, Corning, Tehama and Orland.

Students attend John Muir Charter School in the late afternoons and early evenings after their normal eight hour work day.  Education Days for all Chico Corpsmembers are held frequently in order to provide a variety of education experiences. Topics include health and safety, career education, ecology, blood drives, student government, civics, and vocational education.

Excellent leadership and support from our Conservation Supervisor, Keith Welch, and our C-I’s, staff, and teachers make the Chico site a special place to receive the vocational training and education that prepares Corpsmembers to be knowledgeable, productive, successful members of society.
