John Muir Charter School at the Napa Valley/Vallejo CCC offers corpsmembers an educational program that makes a positive impact in the lives of our students, as well as the community.

The Napa crew of the CCC has been around almost since the acception of the CCC in the 1970's. It is a non-residential program the up until the 2006 has been primarily populated with young hispanic men and women.  The program has since been more ethnically diverse. The Napa crew has been housed on the site of Napa State Hospital grounds for its entire life.  The Napa crew works closely with our Vallejo crew.

The Vallejo crew has had a stop and start history with the CCC.  It sprang from the ashes of the CCC's residential center on Mare Island which operated from approximately 1996 to 2001.  The non-residential crew operated for a couple of years then shut down for a few more.  It started back up in 2007 and continues to flourish.

Ray Faulkenberry has been the Muir representative teacher in the Napa and Vallejo area since Muir's inception in 1999. Thomas Whitlatch, Ray's educational assitant since 2007, began his life as a corpsmember before moving up to special corpsmember.

In addition to teaching the basics of high school, Ray also works with the students in martial arts.  They often take an hour or so of their all-day Friday class and work martial arts techniques.  Ray has owned and operated martial arts schools and is a 6th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and Kenpo.

Ray also spends a lot of time counseling his students in life as his background in psychology and counseling help corpsmembers deal with the abundant issues that are so often prevalent in corpsmembers lives.
