Our Mission
The mission of the Orange County Conservation Corps is to provide an opportunity for "at risk" youth to:
  • learn work skills
  • develop a work ethic
  • develop a sense of community responsibility
  • further their formal education
  • develop leadership skills
  • achieve a self-esteem necessary to enter the workforce.
The OCCC's approach to employability teaches teamwork and cooperation by using work projects that are beneficial to the community and the environment and by creating an atmosphere where corpsmembers have a chance to develop on an educational, professional and personal level.
Field Work

Corpsmembers at the Orange County Conservation Corps clock in by 6:45 a.m. to go to work. They work at a variety of jobs, including:

  • recycling
  • park restoration and maintenance
  • low-income housing renovations
  • construction
  • graffiti removal

They all put in a hard day's work in the Southern California sunshine before returning to the site for education.

Classroom Education
At the Orange County Conservation Corps, students progress through our program to achieve great success. We recognize that student's needs vary and we strive to meet their individual goals, helping them achieve these goals and then their dreams.

Our teachers specialize in specific subjects and teach a variety of classes that allows students to complete their curriculum in a WASC accredited program.  Students can choose to enroll in the Corps Academy, which allows them to complete credits while waiting for a job with the Orange County Conservation Corps or while working elsewhere.  Corps members fulfill their education requirements after working in the field.  This traditional school is proud to offer to all students: computer access, CAHSEE testing opportunities, STAR assessments, and lessons utilizing the latest in educational technology through the use of the Promethean Smart Boards.  We also provide students with a contemporary high school experience through activities such as field trips, school parties, and volunteer opportunities to facilitate personal growth.

It is our goal that by completing California State Standards-based courses, a student can not only obtain a high school diploma, but to ultimately grow into a young adult who has many opportunities open to him or her after graduation.
