Sequoia Community Corps. seeks to strengthen youth, families and communities through education, employment training, youth development, mentoring, leadership building, job creation, environmental stewardship and other strategies that support self-reliant families and caring communities.
The teachers and staff at Sequoia Community Corps provide an engaging, positive learning environment that far supersedes the traditional setting students experienced during their time in conventional high schools. JMCS instructors ensure that the classroom environment couples hands-on vocational skills training with a unique learning environment, ensuring that students receive real world skills that are immediately applicable to their lives. In addition, classes are offered in small group settings quite different from the large environment of traditional public schools and an average staff to member ratio of 1:15 is maintained. Students are taught to not just passively accept instruction but to activate their learning potential and learn from one another. Toward that end, instructors see themselves as guides, rather than figures of authority, and provide the opportunity for students to develop self-respect, respect for others, a strong work ethic and a dedication to learning. This creates an atmosphere of mutual trust and learning.

Sequoia Community Corps offers vocational training in construction trades, solar, weatherization, urban forestry, recycling, electronic waste collection, oil collection and recycling specialists. In addition, students have the opportunity to earn Bobcat and forklift certificates, OSHA 10-hour, first aid and CPR and PACT certificated. We also offer scholarships to students wishing to pursue secondary education, advanced vocational training and union apprenticeships. Upon graduation, students enter the Corps to Career Program where they are prepared for job interviews, learn to write resumes and gain the skills needed to pursue employment after the Corps. This program also assists them with job placement.
