Established
in 1987, the Conservation Corps of Long Beach is a nonprofit charitable organization
governed by volunteer Board of Directors. The organization currently offers
two programs that focus on developing the untapped resource of youth leadership:
• A one-year, non-residential job readiness program for young adults
(18-23 years) that emphasizes education, work, skill building and community
service to help them uncover their position as essential and contributive
members of society.
This program has three major components: 1. Education, which includes
the operation of a satellite charter high school and post high school
education courses; 2. Job readiness skills and training in the areas of
recycling, conservation, landscaping and maintenance; and 3. Corps To
Career program, which prepares young adults for the work world and continues
to provide services to them for two years after they have successfully
completed the program.
• After School Enrichment Program offering an academic enrichment
program three hours a day, five days a week to over 1500 Long Beach students. |
