The California Conservation Corps engages young men and women in meaningful work, public service and educational activities that assist them in becoming more responsible citizens, while protecting and enhancing California’s environment, human resources and communities.
Siskiyou CCC Graduation 
Janness teaching in the classroom. We are a Satellite of Redding. We have two crews. Currently we have about 28 corps members. We have two C-1’s-----Leslie Wilde and Tina Duray. Our C-II is Mark Hill, who also acts as the director. Our corpsmember development (CMD) person is Teresa Berceda. I am the only teacher and have no aids, except some corpsmembers.
I am fortunate to work with a staff, who value education. I keep them notified of the student’s progress. Celebrations do occur when the goal is achieved. At this center, we often have peers who encourage and assist students in their work. Those who have graduated encourage and direct those who have not.
By the end of the year, we will have 37 graduates from Siskiyou. (2002-2005). The CCC purchased a plaque for us and we proudly display the names of all the graduates. Our plates, which hold the name are filling up. Perhaps we will soon need another plaque!
We meet at all hours of the day. On Tuesday and Wednesday we meet at 7:00 a.m. On Tuesday A.M. I feed pancakes to whoever shows up. The students work four, ten hour shifts Monday through Thursday and I teach Friday mornings. We also meet on Monday through Thursday in the evenings after work. Often, our director will let me keep a student off the grade for a day, especially when graduation is close. There is a good feeling here. We all have to pitch in and help, or we don’t survive.
We are small, but we are mighty.
