
| Full-time teacher position for YouthBuild
program located in Gardena. Successful candidate to provide creative and
innovative teaching techniques to prepare students for and pass the CAHSEE
and/or GED. Teacher will provide at-risk young adults, ages 16-24, with
appropriate direct or computer-based instruction to meet student needs for
developing competencies and skills in all subject areas so that they can
earn all their necessary credits for their high school diploma.
Responsibilities include: * Teaching basic skills to students of varied academic levels integrating information from racial/cultural heritages of students, and community history or issues. * Developing individualized goals/plans for each student and assessing student academic progress monthly/bi-monthly. * Adapting the curriculum and developing additional materials according to the needs of the program and students. * Ensuring that lesson plans are created in case of absence or vacation. * Securing information on GED test dates, locations and requirements. * Maintaining up-to-date files according to program requirements. * Meeting with other program staff regularly as part of team approach to discuss and evaluate programmatic and participant progress. Minimum Qualifications: Prospective applicants must have a Bachelors degree; must have a valid CA teacher's credential or proof of eligibility for university internship credential, experience in managing small groups/classroom management.; experience in creative curriculum planning and development; excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to team teach; the ability to instruct via project based learning; ability to relate with multi-racial and multi-cultural groups of young people; the ability to work enthusiastically with at-risk youth. Computer skills are also essential, with experience with Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel, preferred. Attractive salary and benefits package will be provided.
